The ‘food garden’ behind the community centre emphasizes growing food, with a mix of shared areas and individual mini-plots, with an overall feel and look of a garden rather than allotments. Work started in 2009.
Plans for the garden were first sketched on the back of an envelope ( well, nearly), developed by the group, discussed with the community centre, adjusted after feedback from the centre and neighbours, and drawn up formally by Karen Fry.
The shared beds were laid out, fruit trees planted, shed put up, path laid, compost heap constructed and food growing got under way. Since then the garden has been part of Sherwood Art Week with glass painting, held land art and willow weaving workshops and joined in Sherwood Open Gardens. We are closely involved with the Community Centre, and members of Nottingham Growing Network
